Cassidy Launches Third Television Ad: My Job

As a physician, Dr. Cassidy has been a critical voice and a bipartisan leader on health care in the U.S. Senate. Cassidy has helped author and pass legislation to end pharmacy gag clauses to help patients afford their medications and close loopholes to save taxpayers $3.1 billion in health care spending on pharmaceuticals.

Cassidy’s legislation to end the practice of surprise medical billing has been endorsed by almost a third of the senate with 14 Democrats and 16 Republicans joining him in cosponsoring his legislation. The legislation would prevent patients from receiving outrageous bills because, even though they have insurance, they receive emergency care from an out-of-network facility or part of their care is unknowingly performed by an out-of-network provider.

Cassidy has also authored 14 separate provisions that were passed on a bipartisan vote by the Senate’s health committee as part of the Lower Health Care Costs Act which awaits a full vote on the Senate Floor. These provisions seek to protect patients against surprise medical bills (sec. 101, 102, amendment #3), lower the cost of prescription drugs (sec. 202, 203, 204, 208), improve transparency in health care (sec. 301, 306, 309, 310), improve public health (sec. 404, 406), and ensure the safety of patient data (sec. 503).

President Trump has also recognized Cassidy as the first person he calls on health care issues.
